Leading Edge Groove (LEG) lubrication technology revolutionized the hydrodynamic bearing industry when we introduced it in 1984 and it continues to be our premier directed lubrication bearing technology. The patented LEG thrust bearing has made it possible for the world's leading equipment manufacturers to simultaneously increase bearing load, reduce friction and hold babbitt temperatures within acceptable limits. In comparison to standard bearings, the LEG can operate at oil flow rates as much as 60% lower.
The LEG thrust bearing represents sophisticated directed lubrication technology, yet the design is simple. The bearings allow cool inlet oil to flow directly over the leading edge of the bearing shoe into the oil film which insulates the babbitt face from hot oil carryover. As a result, friction is decreased and shoe temperatures remain low.
Kingsbury LEG thrust bearings have been proven to improve efficiency, lower capital costs and add value to machinery in hundreds of turbine applications over the past two decades.
